Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
An important representative stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
